Aprilia-sr125


Despite being a relatively small company by global motorcycling standards, Aprilia is very active in Motorcycle sport. It contests many Road Racing formulae, including the FIM 125 cc World Championship, the FIM 250 cc World Championship, and the now-defunct FIM 500 cc World Championship. From 2002–2004 they participated in the FIM MotoGP World Championship, and from 1999–2003 they participated in the FIM Superbike World Championship.

Aprilia Racing saw varying successes. They were extremely successful in the smaller displacement categories, winning numerous races & championships in the 125 cc Grand Prix and 250 cc Grand Prix classes. However, their 500 cc Grand Prix bike was less competitive, and their MotoGP effort, dubbed the RS3 Cube, was technically advanced but difficult to ride and performed poorly in the championship. The Cube did, however, feature many advanced technologies either not seen or only being seen now in other MotoGP bikes - technologies including fly by wire throttle and pneumatic valve actuation systems. They were 3rd in manufacturers points and 2nd in rider points in the Superbike World Championship 2001 with rider Troy Corser. This was their high water mark for that series. They used a homologation special version of their road bike the RSVR Mille. The motor for the racebike was specially built by Cosworth.

In 2006 & 2007 in they dominated the 250 class of motogp, partly due to the ability of Jorge Lorenzo, partly to the excellent quality of the 250 motorcycle.

Aprilia also feature in the off-road racing world, with their 450 cc V2 motocrosser producing respectable results (including race wins) in both off-road (Motocross) and on-road (Supermoto) categories.

The company is also notable for choosing somewhat atypical engine configurations. For example, they progressed with development of a V2 500 cc Grand Prix bike when other teams were moving to V-Four configurations for what some believed was better & more usable power outputs. Aprilia continued this trend, taking advantage of lighter minimum weights with the introduction of their RS3 MotoGP bike - featuring three cylinders in an inline triple layout, the bike had the least number of cylinders on the Grand Prix paddock. Yamaha had gone ahead with an inline four layout, whilst Suzuki and Ducati went for (differently-designed) V-Four layouts. Honda took the idea even further, producing the championship-winning RC211V, powered by a V5 cylinder engine.

In February 2008, Aprilia debuted a V-4 superbike the RSV 4 for the 2009 Superbike World Championship season.[1

Ktm-racing


KTM began in motorsports with Motocross Racing. In the last few years KTM has gained more success in motorsports by dominating rally-raid events such as the Paris-Dakar Rally and the Atlas-Rally. In 2003, KTM started sponsoring and supporting Road racing in various capacities, with the most successful results stemming from their SuperMotard or Supermoto efforts. KTM's new road racing focus will soon grow to include Superbike competition with the help of their newly developed V-Twin engine dubbed the LC8 as employed in the 950 Adventure dual-sport motorcycle, and more specifically the 2005/2006 990 Super Duke followed by the superbike contender known as the 1190 RC8. The Super Duke will have a higher output, second generation version of the LC8 engine, geared for high rpm peak power as required in road racing and superstreet applications while the RC8 will sport a 1190cc version of the LC8 for more midrange.

KTM offers a range of different engines for its larger motorcycles, all liquid-cooled.

KTM's official company/team colours are Orange, Black and Silver. To create a strong brand identity, all competition-ready KTMs come from the factory with bright orange plastic with "KTM" emblazoned on the side of the radiator shrouds. All KTM bikes also come from the factory with a Motorex sticker on the outside of the motor. All first fills of oil come from Motorex as well. Some official KTM teams use different colors for their bikes, most noticeably in the Paris-Dakar Rally.

The documentary series Long Way Round follows actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman on their extraordinary 20.000 mile journey from London to New York City. In 2004 KTM abruptly pulled their support from the famous motorcycle trip around the world. BMW then donated BMW R1150GS Adventure all-terrain motorcycles for this adventure.

suzuky gsx- R1000


For 2001 Suzuki introduced a new GSX-R model that replaced the largest and most powerful model of the GSX-R series sport bike, the GSX-R1100, with the all new GSX-R1000. As the model name revealed, the engine's cylinder displacement was 100 cc (6.1 cu in) smaller than its predecessor. The GSX-R1000 was not just an enlarged version of the GSX-R750, although it shared many features with its little brother. The main frame is the same in both models, but the material used on the big brother was .5 mm (0.020 in) thicker. Suzuki claimed the torsional rigidity of the frame had increased 10% in comparison with the GSX-R750. The dimensions of the bike had more in common with the GP racer Suzuki RGV500 than the GSX-R750.

The GSX-R1000 engine was a redesigned GSX-R750 engine. The R1000 had a 1 mm (0.039 in) bigger bore and 13 mm (0.51 in) longer stroke, newly designed pistons with lower crown, and gear-driven counter balancer. The engine weighs 130 lb (59 kg) which was slightly heavier than the 750 engine but 31 lb (14 kg) lighter than the engine of the GSX1300R. The performance of the engine is a peak of 160 bhp (120 kW) at 9,500 rpm[1] as measured on the crank and 143 hp (107 kW)[2] when measured on the rear wheel with small variations between different instances of the same model, the redline is set at 12,000 rpm. The maximum torque of the engine is 80 ft·lbf (110 N·m) at 8,000 rpm. Combined with a total (dry) weight of 374 lb (170 kg) this gives the GSX-R1000 a top speed of 192 mph (309 km/h), a 1/4 mile time of 9.3 seconds at 157 mph (253 km/h), and a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time in 3 seconds.

Using titanium for the exhaust pipe and the inside of the silencer, the R1000's exhaust system had become 4 pounds lighter compared with the 750. Titanium was also used in the front fork. The inner tubes were coated with the resistant material. A unique exhaust tuning valve had been mounted inside the exhaust pipe. Using a servo the system dynamically adjusted the exhaust back pressure, according to engine speed, throttle position, and gear selection for increased torque, lower emissions, and decreased noise -- the (stock) exhaust noise of the GSX-R1000 is notably lower than that of the GSX-R600.

With the 2001 model of the GSX-R 1000 the 1998 Yamaha YZF-R1 was finally surpassed with the GSX-R being lighter and more powerful. [3]

The 2001 model carried over to 2002 with minimal changes. 2002 introduced i.a. modifications to the fuel pump and luggage hooks. The manual fast-idle was replaced with a computer operated implementation (the "STV servo"). The color options were changed to replace the pearl black and metallic silver with a candy blue and pearl black scheme.

Honda cbr 600rr


On 6 September, 2006, Honda revealed an all new CBR600RR for the 2007 model year.[1]

The CBR600's most radical redesign since the introduction of the RR in 2003 is highlighted by a whole new engine, frame, and bodywork that results in a smaller, lighter, more-powerful CBR600RR with a class-leading power-to-weight ratio and unparalleled performance.[2]

Honda's middleweight sport bike underwent a complete and total redesign for 2007 with reducing the CBR600RR's weight as their primary focus. The result was a 20 lb (9.1 kg) reduction in dry weight over the 2006 model, from 361 lb (163.7 kg) to 341 lb (154.7 kg).

In redesigning the CBR600RR for lighter weight and increased performance, Honda's R&D engineers started with the engine. The completely new engine is the smallest and lightest powerplant in the super sport class by a significant margin - its designers having used careful positioning of all internal components to achieve significant reductions in the motor's length, width, and height, as well as reducing weight by 2 kg (4.4 lb) compared to the 2006 model's powerplant. While the new engine is smaller and lighter than its predecessor, it also offers increased performance, to the tune of a manufacture claimed 118 hp (88 kW) at 13,500 rpm. At speed, that figure is increased significantly by the highly efficient centrally-located ram-air duct in the bike's nose.


Wrapped around this tiny but powerful engine is an all-new frame, significantly lighter, slimmer, and more compact than that of the 2006 600RR. The frame is produced using what Honda calls Fine Die-Cast (FDC) technology, which allows them to build a lighter frame without compromising strength or rigidity. The reflexes of the new bike are sharpened by its 22 mm (0.87 in) shorter wheelbase, as well as by the designer's focus on strict mass centralization. Despite the shorter wheelbase, the 2007 model's swingarm is actually 5 mm (0.20 in) longer than that of the 2006, made possible by the more compact dimensions of the new bike's engine.

The suspension of the 2007 model is carried over almost unchanged from the 2006 bike, with the same 41 mm (1.61 in) inverted fork in front, and Honda's unique Unit Pro-Link rear suspension configuration damping the rear wheel. The 2007 machine's lighter weight and better chassis configuration allows the carry-over suspension to perform much better than it did on the old model. The new three-spoke cast aluminum wheels are also lighter than those on the 2006 bike, which further contributes to the enhanced performance of the suspension. The brakes feature dual radial-mount 4-piston calipers clamping twin 310 mm (12.20 in) discs up front, and a single-piston caliper squeezing a 220 mm (8.66 in) disc at the rear. Hidden below the steering head is an updated version of the Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) system, which also available on the CBR1000RR. This latest iteration of the HESD offers faster response and more seamless operation than ever before.

The smaller, sharper-edged new front upper fairing is dominated by the large central ram-air duct which feeds the airbox through an opening in the steering head section of the frame and is separated from the sides of the fairing by a large gap which Honda claims is for air management purposes. The tail-section is similarly smaller and sharper-edged, riding atop a heavily restyled under-seat muffler.

The 2007 Honda CBR600RR was made available in U.S. dealerships in Spring of 2007 at an MSRP of US$9,499. The motorcycle carried over with only color scheme changes for the 2008 model year.

Competition in the hyper sport bike segment increased with the release of motorcycles like the BMW K1200S, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R, and Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14. This increased competition led to Suzuki heavily revising the GSX1300R for the 2008 model year.[3] Suzuki has dropped the GSX1300R designation in some countries and simply called the motorcycle the Hayabusa. The engine size was increased to 1340 cc (81.7 cu in) with the compression ratio increasing to 12.5:1. The revised engine has a claimed 12% increase in power to 194 hp (145 kW).[4][5]

Fuel is now fed through a pair of new 44 mm (1.7 in) Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) throttle bodies. The Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS), a technology introduced on the GSX-R line of motorcycles, provides three options of power delivery for a range of touring to wide open high performance. Some of the more notable features include a new 4-2-1-2 exhaust system meets Euro 3 and Tier 2 emission regulations, a slipper clutch, and redesigned bodywork.
